Studying medicine in Malaysia is a wise choice as it is cheaper and closer to home. Cost of living and accommodation is also inexpensive. Being a commonwealth country, it ensures a smoother transition for locally educated doctors who intend to work in other commonwealth countries.

The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) recognises a total of 16 medical degrees locally. Please refer to the following link for the list of recognised training and teaching institutions in Malaysia: Jadual Kedua 09-11-01 Amended for website. Students should also check with the Public Service Department (JPA) regarding recognized medical universities. JPA can be reached at 03-8885 3000 or their website at http://www.jpa.gov.my/.

Please also take note of the list of unrecognised training and teaching institutions in Malaysia. UNSCHEDULED UNIVERSITIES. If a student happens to study in a university that falls under the unrecognised training teaching institution, he or she would have to sit for a medical qualifying exam in order to practice as a doctor in Malaysia.
