Overview
SMILE is a short-term scholarship offered to eligible students with limited resources who intend to participate in mobility activities either domestically or internationally. The range of mobility activities includes:
- The Global Mobility Programme (GMP) is a semester-long study at a partner university for outbound or inbound students. GMP is also open to MSU Colleges students who intend to complete a semester of inter-campus learning at the MSU Campus in Shah Alam.
- Global Leadership Programme (GLP) is a short visitation/exploration for students of MSU and MSU Colleges involving an international destination. The visitation or exploration should include two or more of the following themes: cultural appreciation activity, industry visit, partner university visit, community engagement and/or other sustainability initiatives.
- Global Internship Programme (GIP) is a semester-long attachment/internship at an establishment outside Malaysia for students of MSU.
Criteria
- Full-time student of MSU or its partner institutions (GMP only)
- CGPA of 3.5 or above at the time of application
- Faculty’s (Dean) written recommendation
- Applicant’s socio-economic status
- Willingness to be MSU’s brand ambassador**
- Submission of all documentation before the deadline
** Applicable if applicant is from an economically challenged background

SMILE also provides sponsorship in the form of an award or a grant for outbound and inbound activities involving joint research. Sponsorship includes a flight ticket and accommodation of RM7000 for an outbound researcher or RM4500 for an inbound researcher.
Sponsorships under SMILE are subject to the Terms & Conditions, AND the sponsorship may include ONE or MORE or ALL the following:
- Tuition fees (wherever applicable)
- Travel expenses going and returning
- Living expenses
- Accommodation
